Are You Underestimating Your Need for Disability Insurance

The simplest way to see it is if you don’t have coverage against prolonged recovery period due to accident or illness, then you are underestimating disability insurance. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who are not able to foresee the likelihood of being disabled for a certain length of time due to any mishap or medical condition. Different people have different reasons for ignoring or neglecting the need for such insurance. Some are under the impression that their health insurance will cover them against illness and accident insurance will compensate them for any accident. They don’t seem to be able to think beyond this point where the question of disability forbidding them from going to work and earning a livelihood, arises.

What is life without work?

Some folks may immediately retort to this question by bringing up the issue of unemployment that has resulted in scores of people having no work to do. They need to be reminded that the unemployed are not prevented from working; they just don’t have work matching their capabilities or due to larger issues of the economy.

Not being able to work due to physical inability and limitations caused by accidental injury or illness is not unemployment – it’s called disability. It’s not something you want to think about regularly as a normal person e.g. a doctor, but it is also not something that you can ignore, especially with regard to doctors disability insurance

Healthcare workers must have disability coverage

As a healthcare professional you should have no inhibitions or hesitation in getting physicians disability insurance since you know what disability is all about. Yet, there are many healthcare workers who have either not covered themselves against disability for reasons best known to them. If you are yet to get the coverage, it’s time you got one.

In the wake of the current Covid pandemic that has resulted in tens of thousands of people losing their lives or becoming disabled for long periods, healthcare workers are at great risk. Getting a healthcare professionals disability insurance will ensure that you continue to earn a livelihood even if you aren’t able to work due to disability.

One in every four American has a disability

Over 26% of Americans suffer from some kind of disability that affects their ability to work in various ways. Healthcare workers are a part of this large group of people struggling with disability, more so after the Covid outbreak that has changed the way we deal with health hazards.

If you are yet to get coverage against disability, don’t delay it any longer. Look out for disability insurance services and speak to them about optimum long term coverage that will be economical and at the same time offer you maximum benefits in case you ever need it.

Insurance is nothing but a deterrence against bad times resulting from a mishap or illness. Such things are real life hazards from which it is difficult to keep yourself safe, especially in the times we live. The cost of getting healthcare professionals insurance against disability is barely 1-2% of your income as a physician but the compensation is invaluable if and when you need it.
