Eye Doctor

If it’s been a while since your last eye doctor appointment – or you haven’t been to one yet as an adult – you may be worried about how to prepare and what you should do before going. Even if you’re just switching eye doctors, it is important to make sure you’re prepared and that you ask the right questions during your appointment. Consider the following before you set the appointment so you’re ready.

Think About Concerns You Might Have

Do you have any concerns about your eyes? If you’re setting an appointment with an eye doctor marietta, it’s possible you’re worried about your vision or that you need glasses. Make sure you consider your concerns carefully, so you know what to ask the eye doctor while you’re there. If it helps, create a short list of your concerns that you can share with the eye doctor. This helps to ensure you won’t forget anything.

Bring Your Glasses or Contacts

If you have glasses or contacts, make sure you bring them to the appointment. Reading glasses should be brought with you, too, if you’ve started using them recently. If you do have contacts, it’s recommended to bring them instead of having them in. While you may want to wear your contacts to see better, it’s faster to wear glasses to the appointment, as you will have to take the contacts out during the eye exam. If you only have contacts, it is possible to take them out to do the exam, just make sure you are prepared.

Ask Your Doctor About What You May Need

Be prepared with questions you might have for the eye doctor, such as what you may need if your vision is changing. If you’ve always had great vision but have been struggling a little bit lately, you may need glasses or contacts. Ask your eye doctor which would be right for you if they are necessary. If your vision does require corrections, you may want to ask if you’re a candidate for laser eye surgery or other correction methods.

Ask About How to Protect Your Eye Health

Make sure you ask your eye doctor about ways to protect your eye health while you’re at the visit. Depending on medical conditions, family history, and more, they can provide valuable recommendations. This may include wearing protective eyewear during certain situations, making sure you rest your eyes if you’re on the computer frequently, and wearing sunglasses when you’re outside during the day. They can also provide recommendations that are more specific to you and your vision history.

If you are planning a visit to the eye doctor, especially if it’s your first visit or you haven’t been in a long time, make sure you plan for your visit, so you know what to expect and are prepared to speak with the eye doctor. Use the information here to make sure you have everything you need at the visit and that you’re ready to learn more about caring for your vision.
