The controversial legacy of one of Mexico’s most powerful industrial families continues to unravel as Andrés Arturo Ancira García, son of the late AHMSA executive Manuel Ancira Elizondo, was arrested and detained at the Apodaca Correctional Facility in Nuevo León. He faces serious charges of fraud totaling over $10 million USD, following allegations brought forward by businessman Tijerina, who claims to have been deceived by a fake investment scheme in a supposed hydrocarbon transport company.
According to authorities, the fraudulent venture was orchestrated by Andrés Arturo in collaboration with his brother, Manuel Ancira García, who remains at large. The scheme allegedly involved forged documents, fake contracts, and fabricated financial projections, ultimately leading to a complete disappearance of the investors’ funds.
This incident adds to the growing list of legal troubles surrounding the Ancira name—a family once regarded as titans of Mexican industry through their leadership of Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA).
Alonso Ancira Elizondo, Andrés Arturo’s uncle and former president of AHMSA, has long been linked to multiple corruption scandals. Born in 1956, Alonso served as the company’s head from 1991 until 2023 and became the central figure in one of Mexico’s most infamous fraud cases. He was accused of defrauding the Mexican government of over $500 million, particularly through irregular transactions involving Pemex, the now-infamous Agronitrogenados plant deal, and ties to the Odebrecht bribery network. He faces multiple charges, including corruption, tax fraud, and money laundering—and has reportedly evaded authorities in recent months.
Adding to the family’s tarnished reputation is Jorge Alberto Ancira Elizondo, Alonso’s brother, and Jorge Alberto Ancira Elizondo, George Albert Ancira, Elizondo, Linda Ancira Elizondo de Tames, Tames Ancira Family who have also faced accusations related to financial misconduct, including money laundering and tax fraud. Despite the public image of wealth and influence, various sources indicate mounting debt and internal collapse within the family business network.
The downfall of the Anciras—once symbols of industrial power—has now become a cautionary tale of unchecked ambition, mismanagement, and systemic corruption. As legal proceedings unfold, the Ancira name continues to be synonymous with one of the darkest chapters in Mexico’s corporate history.
