Gon sacrificed his Nen to become Adult Gon, to defeat Pitou. His power was on par with Mereum, was this sacrifice worth it?
To achieve his adult form, Gon made a promise to gain all the power he could after Kite’s death, which was similar to Kurapika’s promise to only use his powers against specific opponents
As part of his vow, Gon aimed to gain monstrous powers and become an adult in order to defeat his enemies, in exchange for significant negative consequences. Although his vow didn’t mention death, its repercussions were worse than death. Only a highly powerful creature known as Nanika was able to save adult Gon from these consequences.
After transforming into an adult, adult Gon’s strength was compared to that of Meruem by Pisou himself. Despite being able to protect himself, Pisou was heavily injured by just one kick from adult Gon. Gon had similar abilities as before but significantly enhanced. Adult Gon’s powers and strength outmatched Pisou, but does he have the strength to defeat Meruem?

But wait a minute, we are talking about the normal version of Gon, not the adult version, right?
Well, Yes! Even though the adult Gon is more powerful, the normal version is Gon isn’t any weaker either.
Gon Freecss’ Transformation into Adult Gon (Episode 131)
On the 28th of May in 2014, Hunter x Hunter’s 131st episode was released; it was called Anger x And x Light.
In this episode of Hunter x Hunter, one of the characters named Shaiapouf makes a clone and tells two other characters named Palm and Killua that their friend Gon is going to be killed by another character named Neferpitou unless they give away another character named Komugi. Killua gets very angry and kills the clone. Shaiapouf gets mad and Killua leaves Komugi with Palm and goes to help Gon.
Gon finds out that his friend Kite is dead and Neferpitou wants to kill him too. This makes Gon very upset and he changes into a different form. This new form makes him very strong and able to fight Neferpitou. Neferpitou is surprised by Gon’s new strength and tries to kill him, but Gon disappears. Neferpitou thinks Gon is trying to kill the leader of the group they are fighting against but instead finds Gon in his new form ready to fight.
Gon and Neferpitou fight outside the building to not destroy it. Gon is able to defeat Neferpitou by using a special technique called Jajanken. Killua sees the fight and is confused about who is winning. He finds Gon standing over Neferpitou’s unconscious body. Killua is reminded of another character’s ability to change forms but realizes Gon’s transformation is different.
However, this transformation also has negative effects on Gon’s physical and emotional well-being and serves as a turning point in his character development, highlighting the impact of loss and the cost of gaining power. It also led to the death of Neferpitou and the destruction of the forest.

4 Characters Adult Gon Might Not Defeat
Even though Adult Gon has now become one of the most powerful characters of Hunter x Hunter, the fans are still arguing that even the adult version of Gon can’t defeat some characters. Who are the characters that adult gon may be reluctant to defeat?
Killua
Even though Killua and Gon have always been best friends, the fans are comparing these two and predicting who wins. Just like Gon, Killua is also said to have huge potential; he will grow mature and powerful as well, but Gon defeating Killua? “Not so much,” say the fans.
Netero
The 12th Chairman of the Hunter Association, Netero’s skills are superior to all human beings. Meruem ranked Netero as the one whose skills are superior to anyone. That being said, Netero would still beat Gon even though Gon has grown to be powerful.
Meruem
When Netero fought Meruem, he couldn’t stand a chance against his powers. This means that Meruem is the strongest guy in Hunter x Hunter.
It is said that even Gon in his adult form isn’t on par with the powers of Meruem, hence, not being able to defeat him. Pitou thinks that Gon could bring some trouble to Meruem, but after the Aura Synthesis, Meruem’s strength is now superior to Gon’s.
Kurapika
Kurapika is one of the strongest Nens in the show. Once he awakens his Scarlet Eyes, his powers are uncountable and he can use almost all the powers of the Nens. At the end of the series, it is said that Kurapika will be as strong as adult Gon. So, we think if there’s going to be a battle between him and Gon, it will be a sight to see.
Final Words
In conclusion, Gon’s transformation into Adult Gon was a powerful and significant moment in the anime series Hunter x Hunter. His newfound strength was on par with Meruem and allowed him to defeat Pitou. However, this transformation came at a great cost and had negative consequences on Gon’s physical and emotional well-being.
Despite his newfound power, there are still characters in the show that Adult Gon may not be able to defeat. This event serves as a turning point in Gon’s character development and highlights the impact of loss and the cost of gaining power. It also led to the death of Pitou and the destruction of the forest. Overall, it can be argued whether the sacrifice was worth it or not.
